NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies is an innovative ETH Zurich technology platform created to enable and accelerate the execution of translational research projects by providing key technological resources, tools and collaboration opportunities for the personalized health research community.
Its Theragnostics Discovery Unit in Zurich specializes in assay development, high-throughput screening and data analysis and provides access to high-end lab automation equipment, unique state-of-the-art small-molecule and libraries, as well as gene manipulation tools.
Project background
As part of the CoVMass program, ETH provides PCR saliva tests intended to help prevent infections and create a safer working and learning environment for employees and students. Therefore, ETH members can be tested for Covid-19 free of charge with a PCR saliva test at ETH main building, at the ETH campuses Hönggerberg and Octavo and at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) in Basel.
Job description
To support the CoVMass project as well as NEXUS daily operation, we are looking for a highly collaborative and service-oriented person to join a multidisciplinary team of technical scientists as of February 1st, 2022. The successful applicant will be part of the Theragnostics Discovery Unit, where she/he supervises and supports the saliva sample pooling of the CoVMass project (50 %) and supports NEXUS (30 – 50%) in general lab management and system maintenance tasks, such as the calibration and routine maintenance of lab automation equipment. Further, independent and timely preparatory work for high-throughput screens in cell culture (i.e. expansion of cells) and preparation of buffers and solutions are part of the job. Please note that the advertised position is limited to six months with a possibility of extension.
Your profile
You hold a technical diploma, a B.Sc. or a M.Sc. degree in biology ideally with a background in the operation of liquid handling lab automation equipment (ideally from Tecan) and are passionate about science and technology. You have broad experience in standard cell culture work, ideally in a biological safety level 2 environment. ( nice to have but not required )
As a proactive team player with a high level of accuracy and reliability, you are also able to work independently on customer projects.
In addition, you have a good command in German and English combined with excellent communication and organizational skills.
